Meet Adeline Annie

Hi, I am Annie I have been sewing now for almost 55 years. My first sewing project was a hand sewn skirt for a school performance in third grade. I took to it immediately and was so enthusiastic that my teacher wrote about it in my report card!

I grew up hearing stories about my grandmother Adeline and her amazing sewing abilities. She was a seamstress and the personal dressmaker for the Vanderbilt family that summered in Newport, Rhode Island. According to family lore she spent 2 years sewing the wardrobe for one wealthy family only to have her clothes go down with the Titanic!

In high school I took sewing for 4 years. I made all my clothes then. My sewing teacher was Sister Aloysius. She was a very exacting teacher and didn’t like me very much. I caused an uproar trying to change the draconian dress code for girls in my senior year (it was the 70’s and girls weren’t allowed to wear pants!).

In my senior year of high school I won the sewing award which was only given to one student. When it came time to revealing who would receive the award she pulled me aside and told me that I was the recipient. She stated I was a very good sewer “but I had a bad ATTITUDE!”

In addition to my passion for quilting, I am still enthusiastic about my Nursing career. For 44 years I have been able to combine my two loves of being a nurse-midwife and school nurse. I have found immense joy and satisfaction is helping families receive the kind of care they deserve in an ever changing healthcare landscape. Currently I am attending home and birth center births while working part-time as a school nurse.

I have been teaching quilting classes on and off for 30+ years. Now I have a beautiful light filled studio with all the supplies a beginner or advanced student could need.

If you are interested in exploring this creative outlet, consider taking a class. I am offering a beginner’s class for 3 weeks in which you will learn the basics of the sewing machine and complete a small project.

This will give you the foundation to move on to making a quilt if you so desire.

Also, after completing my class you will be able to attend a drop in studio session to work on future projects.
